How to build a brand with folklore

Music Villa is a local music store in Bozeman, MT that provides us with a perfect example of how to brand using social media. These two YouTube shorts done in a documentary style format bring uniqenesses to the forefront in a cheeky sort of way while projecting company values. Nothing salesy about these, but the next time I buy guitar strings, I might just order them from these guys.

Participatory Marketing - Your brand’s future depends on it.

There are two kinds of brands in the world. Brands who seek to bond with their customers and brands who don’t.

For the former, forging a meaningful, long-lasting relationship with customers is easier said than done. The economics of marketing have been turned upside down by the emergence of social sharing and the ever-growing presence of the voice of the consumer. Share of mind through reach and frequency is being replaced by share of [consumer] voice.

Brands with balls

You know those classic cartoons of a snowball rolling down a mountain, gaining size and speed by the second?

That’s a great metaphor for the way a brand grows. We call it a Katamari, which is Japanese for “clump.”

Once a Katamari starts rolling, it picks up whatever it touches. Good and bad, true and false, planned and unplanned.

How to mince your competition using social media.

A woman from Portland Oregon is enjoying a free iPhone 4 and a free 2 year contract with her wireless provider. Her name is Ashley and she is a recent winner in a “Blend My Phone” contest—a small piece of marketing by Tom Dickson’s blender company BlendTec.

The Social of Media - How an Idea to Generate 200K Fans in 28 Days Becomes Reality

The Concept & Strategy

Two and a half months ago, a small creative team started our concept and strategy session for Kirkland’s Q1 Facebook Promo. The goal of the promo was to generate 200,000 new fans in 28 days for Kirkland’s Facebook fan page. If you can imagine, more than seven people in a room yelling out ideas on top of each other back-to-back. One-after-one, we sliced and diced ideas that were too crazy and ideas that weren’t crazy enough. At redpepper, we like to be as edgy as our clients allow and test the demographics of our client’s consumer base as much as possible.

Listen with both ears - How to get the most out of social media

Once upon a time there was no Internet. Just ancient wisdom and folklore passed down through generations through cave wall carvings and word of mouth. Which meant that if you wanted to know all there was to know about

Ad Agencies Will Be Non-Existent 10 Years From Now.

Chances are you either strongly agree or strongly disagree with this statement because, well, now you’re actually reading this post. If the headline had said, “Ad Agencies are Changing,” you wouldn’t be so intrigued. But, instead, my headline grabbed your attention because it sparked a certain emotional reaction from you (whether good or bad), and now you’re hanging onto my every word to see why I would make such an awesome or outrageous claim...

Let your LikeLight shine

We’ve been doing a lot of experimentation with the Facebook Like functionality lately. For good reason, it’s all the rage in Social Media! Since Facebook opened up their Graph API we developer types have been able to get all sorts of fun data to play with. One of those bits of data is the Like count for any Facebook object. Person, post, page, etc…That’s cool and all but how could we take that and make it awesomer?

Do you guys ever get any work done?

A good number of those who follow us seem to eventually wonder, and often ask, “Do you guys ever get any work done?” and/or “What kind of work do you do?”

So, we thought we’d try to take a (small) step back from our culture and put our work, our passion, in the forefront. After a few hours of curating and exactly three Kernel Panics, we present to you some of our recent “work” and in under 2 minutes.

Like Us!

We’ve recently been working with a client to increase their Facebook page likes. There are of course various ways in which you could do such a thing. Many involve liking a page to interact with a particular bit of content. It’s basically an admission fee which most Facebook users are very willing to pay.

Facebook Places Experiment

Location what? Places who? Yeah, it’s everywhere I know. Add “Social Media” to the mix and you get the ultimate marketing buzz term for ‘011 and beyond, Social Media Location Marketing. SMLM for short. An acronym I just invented that when pronounced is pronounced smell’em; because you’re so close to marketing to someone you can smell them. You can use that. I only charge 25¢ per time you say it which is a pretty good deal I think.
