Sharing a Story Can Re-inspire
Recently RIGGS, the originators of CreateAthon, ask all partners to share a blog entry about our experience with the event. Right away I thought I should send them this video we had produced earlier this year. In the video I shared how redpepper first got involved in CreateAthon and how it’s grown to be one of the most favorite times of the year for almost everyone at the agency.
I was surprised when I got this response from Teresa Coles, RIGGS Partner and co-founder of CreateAthon. This is just an excerpt from her letter to me…
I can tell you now your video was my CreateAthon moment for this year.
Here’s why:
After 14 year of all-nighters, and after the high of our CAT event here in Columbia wears off, I have to admit it feels a little as if we are fighting an uphill battle. I get discouraged as the year goes on, wondering why every agency out there doesn’t participate in the program. By the time CreateAthon rolls around, and the stress of coordinating our own local event builds, I start to wonder if it’s really worth it. I had that doubt this year coming into CreateAthon.
Then I saw your video.
I cannot express to you what your story means to me. That our little idea would inspire one person like you to stand up and share your story in the way you did means more to me that if there were 100 agencies on board with CreateAthon.
Thank you so much for this gift. For a moment of grace that tells me one person’s heart is enough.
It was so touching to get such a heartfelt note from someone who started CreateAthon and to hear that my story has re-inspired her in some way. Reading her response, I am reminded how important it is to explain WHY we do what we do… when you focus on the WHAT - people just think you are crazy.
