Hidden Pizza Restaurant
Yellow Pages just got a couple of cool points in my books. They set up a a hidden pizza restaurant and challenged people to find it’s location for free pizza. The microsite is awesome, the campaign is even cooler, and the idea a pure winner. Maybe I should bring my Yellow Pages book out of retirement. Ann, watch out!

New Thinking for a New Year: Consumers are...
As year’s end approaches, it’s worth it to stop and reflect on the year that’s ending and begin thinking critically about the year ahead. Here are a few thoughts to keep in mind moving forward that could mean the difference between having a good year and a great year. 2010 saw the closing of hundreds of Starbucks locations while at home coffee maker sales enjoyed a...

Stop the Candy Shop
This is a video chronicle of redpepper’s work in promoting Stop the Candy Shop, a film that exposes the horrors of child sex trafficking by telling a gripping parable set in a Depression-era candy shop. Our goal was to create an engaging adver-art that could both serve as an interactive public event and also mobilize supporters to vote for the film in the Doorpost Film Project...

Happy Holidays: All Up On Your Face!
We heart augmented reality. Other than being burned alive if you step foot within these walls wielding any object resembling an actual pepper, it’s one of the first lessons you learn as a rookie redpepper. So naturally, my first project here at the r-p was to feature some A-R in our own holiday card. The concept was to take advantage of your webcam, and with a few hundred face detection...

Closing the Loop: What Social Media Did for the...
Before social media, much of advertising was blind and deaf. It had a mouth, for sure, but lacked a bit in the eyes and ears department. Now, the social sphere gives advertisers a new set of glasses through which to observe the actions and behaviors of the market and, perhaps more importantly, a hearing aid with which to listen. Historically, most of what we call advertising has occurred in...

Spaghetti Cupcakes!!!
I work with some seriously creative people, and Erin Wiles really takes the cake (pun intended) when it comes to creativity in the kitchen. This time she’s really outdone herself. The meatballs made from Ferrero Rocher chocolate balls, strawberry jelly, and coconut only look like they came from Italy. Watch out Gigi, this girl’s on a roll. Buon Appetito!

What is pepperpalooza?
Today, the 9th of December, is sacred for redpeppers.  We have packed our bags and will now embark on a magical, once-a-year journey we call pepperpalooza.  It is a time of learning, growing, alignment, fun and games that prepare the veterans and new hires alike for whatever the next 12 months hold.  Without it, redpepper would more than likely shrink and diminish into a chop-shop filled with...

On Going Off-Script
Last Saturday I was on set for a commercial shoot that featured non-professional actors telling their family’s story in a poignant way.  This raw style of storytelling constantly inspires me, so I have dreamed of producing a piece like this for ages. As the shoot approached, I began incessantly imagining the minutia of the story – the inflections in each line of monologue, the subtle...

Rules of Engagement: What the Popular Facebook...
The following Facebook status update was posted on Jan. 17, 2010. “U have 10 fish, 5 drown, 3 come back to life. How many fish do you have? Stop counting smart one. Fish cant Drown.” To date, this status has received more comments than any other. Any guess what people said? As you may have guessed, the most common sentiment was something to the effect of, “Yes they can.”...

Guy builds script to buy him things
Inspired by this xkcd comic, Paul Hunkin built a brilliant script to bid on random auction items for him. It then tweets what it bid on or won. Oh the things you can do with APIs and a little knowhow.

Carl in Times Square
Last month Corona ran a promo on their Facebook page that would allow anyone who “liked” them to be publicly thanked in Times Square. Now our very own Carl is worldwide famous with his Mona Lisa portrait!

Finished or unfinished? Secrets of a National...
In 2004, more than two million people made the trek to the Black Hills of South Dakota to stand and gaze upon an unfinished, dynamite carving of the likenesses of four of America’s most well-known presidents. In 1939, Theodore Roosevelt’s likeness was the last to emerge from beneath more than 450,000 tons of granite that was blasted off the mountain using dynamite. But, there was...

Chocolate Bunny
Chocolate Bunny is a short film by Dutch designers/filmmakers Lernert & Sander. It’s three shorts rolled into one that showcase different ways to melt a chocolate bunny. Sounds weird, I know, but seriously, the way that Lernert & Sander combine monochromatic scenes, beautiful music and the incredibly fascinating scene of a chocolate rabbit melting is really astounding. There is...

White walls be gone.
Artist AJ Fosik creates wall sculptures from paint, wood, and nails. His work is fierce. His work ethic is worth reading about. I’m a white-space office kinda girl, but I’m pretty sure if this guy was hanging on my wall (preferably, directly over my monitor on my perfectly matching brown wall) I would have no choice but to be a little more adventurous with design and a little more...

'Tis the season for sharing
Kirkland’s sparkliest spokesperson, Merry the Gift Fairy, is really busy these days. Not only has she been doling out free shopping sprees and surprise giveaways, she’s also spreading cheer on Twitter by sharing random tidbits of holidayness with complete strangers. Just some of the words of “wisdom” Merry has passed along: “The best way to wrap a gift is with plenty of love. (Although a...
